Scientist/Senior Scientist, Upstream Process Development
Frontera Therapeutics is seeking a Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist to join our Upstream Process Development Team. This individual will help develop and optimize the production platform. This successful candidate will design process development and characterization studies using shake flasks and bench-top bioreactors, participate in scale-up efforts, transfer processes to CDMO/CMOs, and evaluate new technologies as part of efforts towards continuous improvement. This person will interact extensively with other groups within Frontera, including Downstream and Analytical teams.
Responsibilities
- Independently design experiments related to development, scale-up, and characterization of cell culture processes. Execute experiments with associate scientists in lab
- Apply engineering principles to optimize scale-up processes
- Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies for continuing platform improvement
- Perform data analysis on the performed and related activities and prepare technical reports, SOPs, and internal and external presentations
- Assist with development activities at CDMO and support technology transfer efforts including knowledge transfer, scale-up, facility gap analysis
- Ensure effective, high-quality, timely and appropriate documentation in electronic laboratory notebooks
- Effectively maintain good communication and collaborate with cross-functional colleagues for successful execution/completion of project
- Stay current on industry trends through literature review, courses, conferences, and technical meetings
- Supervise or lead junior members in their daily activities.
Requirements

- D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry or equivalent related fields with 4-6+years of relevant industrial experience or M.S./B.S. degree with 10-14+ years of experience
- Ability to lead a scientific project and manage, analyze, and interpret complex experimental data
- Strong hands-on experience or knowledge on cell culture, aseptic technique, and bioreactor operations (such as high-throughput, bench-top, and pilot) is required
- Experience with viral vector production, statistical software, technology transfer to CDMO/manufacturing facility, and process characterization experience is a plus
- Strong communication skills, including writing and oral presentations
- Strong technical and analytical skills
